Five Signs You Should Replace Your Lift
When you install a lift in your home or business, the last thing you consider is the need to replace it. In most cases, your lift should be repairable, making it easy to maintain. Unfortunately, there are times where this simply isn’t the case.
With that in mind, here are some of the more common signals that you may need to replace your lift:
1. It Makes Too Much Noise
Your lift should be quiet and run almost silently. While it’s impossible to get it completely silent, there should certainly not be any squeals or screeches. If this cannot be fixed, you’ll need to replace your lift.
2. It Breaks Down Frequently
Like most other mechanical transports, a lift needs ongoing maintenance and repairs. However, once it is breaking down more and more, you will know that its useful life is nearing an end. If it seems like every time that you fix the lift it breaks down again, you will probably need to replace it fairly soon.
3. It’s Slowing Down
Has your lift changed speeds? Over time the elevator begins to suffer from wear and tear, particularly if it is in use multiple times a day, with heavy loads. Whether for industrial or commercial use, the elevators have a limit to how much they can do. The parts will begin to wear down and it can eventually cause more serious issues.
4. It Has a Consistent Jerking Movement
When a lift starts to jerk as it moves up and down, particularly if it never did this before, you should have it inspected. These movements are often a sign that you’ll need to replace the entire lift, but sometimes it can be repaired, at least for a short time.
5. It Stops in the Wrong Place
Most lifts stop exactly on the floor that you want to get off on. Once your lift reaches the point where it is stopping a foot or so above or below your desired floor, you know that the brakes are starting to fail. Instead of stopping on time, they are sliding just past where you need to get off. This obviously has potentially deadly consequences, so it’s important that you replace the lift or at least the brakes, before something dangerous happens.
If you are in any danger from your lift, it’s essential that you change it out as soon as possible. In the meantime, prevent anyone from using it if possible. You can contact Euro-Lifts to help you learn more about your options.
